Sources and Licenses
These are the principal sources for third-party data and imagery currently bundled with the app.
Use and provenance
We record source versions, transformations, and attribution for map and puzzle geometry, map imagery, sea-area-derived auxiliary shapes, and celestial imagery.
Natural Earth
Country and region geometry and boundaries use Natural Earth 5.1.1 vector data. Map presentation uses Natural Earth 3.2.0 raster map data.
Natural Earth describes its officially distributed vector and raster map data as public domain. Credit is not required, but we identify the source.
VLIZ Marine Regions
Auxiliary shapes for some small-island countries use processed data from Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ), “Maritime Boundaries and Exclusive Economic Zones (200NM), version 12” (2023, World EEZ v12).
The source dataset is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. Pitatto Map processes the data into auxiliary puzzle shapes that make small countries easier to find and handle.

NASA SVS Deep Star Maps 2020
The celestial background uses Deep Star Maps 2020 from NASA’s Scientific Visualization Studio. The source OpenEXR image was converted to PNG and flipped horizontally to match the display orientation.
